While you ponder your choice of baby costume, here are some interesting facts. Some might think Halloween is a commercial holiday. While this may be true today, the customs of dressing up and trick or treating actually have a very rich history. Celebrations of Halloween, All Hallow’s Eve, or Samhain, take their roots in ancient Celtic and pagan folklore.

People have been dressing up their children for All Hallow’s Eve for years. Initially, the tradition stems from the belief that spirits, ghouls and other beings roam the earth. Celtic peoples would leave food and offerings and go from door to door, usually asking for food or liquor.  People would dress up and beg for “soul cakes”, money or food, according to accounts from as early as the 16th century. Halloween truly became a children’s holiday in the early 20th century: in 1911, in Kingston, Ontario, there were reports of children dressing up and going around the neighborhood. The first Halloween costumes, as we think of them, were made mostly for children. Honor the tradition with one of our many wonderful baby costumes!
